Continuing on directly from my previous post, the following day saw me at Carisbrooke Castle on the Isle of Wight. I still had half a roll of Ilford HP5 in the camera so once inside I tried to visit all of the inside things first. There is the Chapel of St Nicholas in Castro. ItContinue reading “Inside Carisbrooke Castle”

HP5, FX21 and Osbourne
I loaded in a roll of Ilford HP5 as I was going inside Osbourne House on the Isle of Wight. It was the rural/holiday/summer residence of Queen Victoria and was designed by her beloved husband Albert. They purchased the estate together in 1845, she used it for the rest of her life, and died thereContinue reading “HP5, FX21 and Osbourne”
Osbourne in B/W
I had a few frames of Ilford Delta 100 left in my camera loaded with B/W. I often carry two bodies of the same system, one with black and white and one with colour film. I find it interesting on a given day if I have unconsciously made photo’s differently or been drawn to differentContinue reading “Osbourne in B/W”
Foma in Rodinal
Back in 2024 I was given a random roll of Foma 100, I didn’t even know if it was a viable film, already exposed, or fogged. I shot it anyway and then decided to develop it in Rodinal stand. I got what I thought were rather good results from it. You can read that postContinue reading “Foma in Rodinal”
Osbourne House
Back on the Ilse of Wight, I had loaded a roll of Kodak Gold 200 into my second Canon EOS 30 body. The sun was out, and it was a pleasant warm spring day. Osbourne House was built by Queen Victoria between 1845-51, on the site of an older house. It was to be herContinue reading “Osbourne House”
Nikon F55 (2002)
It’s been a while since I’ve done a camera post. With the recent demise of one of my Canon EOS 30’s I’ve had an eye open for a replacement and should one turn up at the right price, I’ll get another. In the meantime however I came across this Nikon F55 complete with 28-80mm lensContinue reading “Nikon F55 (2002)”
The Needles
If you’ve ever heard of the Ilse of Wight then you will have heard of “The Needles”, it’s the famous landmark that juts out into the Solent, features in the shipping forecast, and is, in these parts, known as the windiest spot. During storm Eunice in 2022, 122 mph was recorded! This day was alsoContinue reading “The Needles”
St. Agnes Church, Isle of Wight
Just around the corner from Dimbola Lodge is St. Agnes Church, the only thatched church on the island. I think the fact it is thatched makes it look old bordering on ancient, in fact it was only built in 1908. This “old look” is helped by the fact that a lot of the stone isContinue reading “St. Agnes Church, Isle of Wight”
A Visit to Dimbola Lodge
Dimbola lodge looks out over Freswater Bay on the southern coast of the Isle of Wight. For 15 years between 1860 and 1875, it was the home of Julia Margaret Cameron, an early pioneer of photography. It was on my list of things to do that I’ve missed on the island over the years. AsContinue reading “A Visit to Dimbola Lodge”
Sandown Zoo
At the very end of Sandown (IOW) seafront stands what was once Sandown Fort, a Victorian fort built to protect the bay around 1864. It also served in WW2 notably holding pumps for Operation Pluto. The zoo was established here in the 1950’s, and taken over by Jack Corney in 1976. I Visited before, inContinue reading “Sandown Zoo”
