Piddle, Puddle or Trent #5

This is a “mini” next Chapter as the last one was long enough by it’s self. Athehampton House (above), is a tourist attraction/wedding venue. It is separate from, but is on the edge of Puddletown. The people in the image above are approaching the main entrance to the house, this goes straight into the great hall, largely unchanged since it was built in 1485. Before that. there was still a manor here – it was noted in the Domesday book of 1086, “(the Manor) then called Pidele, was held by the Bishop of Salisbury with Odbold as a tenant”. Should you feel so inclined there is a full history here.

I’ve both videoed and been the photographer at weddings here over the years, so know it quite well. From the small window above the main entrance it’s possible to make a group photo of all the guests below looking up at the camera, a slightly different view. After the ceremony in the Great Hall, guests can then flow seamlessly into the “West Wing” (the bit of the building on the left) for drinks! What was the stable and yard is now converted into a reception (Wedding Breakfast) venue.

Anyway – back to the river, The “Piddle” flows within a few meters of the back door. So this is a Manor very much “on the Piddle”. As I know it well I didn’t feel the need to pay the entrance fee, so the image above is taken through the main gate!

Both these photo’s were made on Kodak Ektar 100 with the Canon EOS30 and the good old 40mm STM lens, I use this lens often!

Film was developed by Analogue Wonderland but scanned by me at home on the Epson V600. That’s a system that works OK, but as time goes on I’m looking for another solution for scanning/digitizing.
