Piddlehinton is a small village in Dorset, in the 2011 census it had a population of 403. Amazingly for such a small place, they have two “adult” football teams, both in the Dorset league! The Church of St Mary the Virgin is the only public building of interest. There is a pub, “The Thimble Inn” and there is a Village hall, but neither raised my photographic interest.

The church dates from the 13th century, but as is typical, mostly re-built in the 15th century then it grew and much was added in the 16th century, then restored in the 1800’s (1867?).

It was in the graveyard that the day took an un-expected turn! Said church yard is a “space for nature” – rather like “no mow May”. Indeed the grass was long and I had to romp about in it to get the photo I wanted. Having successfully done that, making my way back to the path I managed to get bitten by an adder! Photo to the right taken a week or so later when things had healed a bit. There was a surprising amount of “bruising” to start with. Luckily I had pretty thick baggy jeans on, so I think it mostly missed me and got my trousers. There were matching wet patches!!!

I don’t like snakes and so was back in the car within seconds!! The decision was made to call it a day, apart from the wildlife attack – it was very hot… time for a drink and a pint!
