Single Photo: Appley Tower

Appley Tower stands on the eastern end of Ryde Esplanade, on the Isle of Wight. This area is known as Appley (there is Appley… Tower / Farm / Lodge / Walk / Park etc), all of which were once on the Estate of Appley House, now long demolished. It was once the home of the Hutt family, Sir William Hutt was a prominent politician of the day, and and greatly involved in the colonization of both South Australia and especially New Zealand. The Hutt River there is named after him. Anyway, it seems that withing about 5 years of buying the estate he had Appley Tower built as a folley, around 1875, so it is not as old as perhaps it looks. He died here in 1882.

This photo was made on Ilford Delta 100, developed in FX21. I used the Canon EOS30 with the 40mm STM.
