There is quite a nice long beach at St Helens on the Isle of Wight. It’s not an especially popular area with tourists, especially before Easter. There are however a few interesting things to photograph there. There is a row of “Beach Huts” – all rather tatty and about to be removed, in fact by now they may already be gone. Interesting as they were once old railway carriages. If you look closely in the image below, under the missing planking you can see a window still in place. Further below inside, you can see the luggage racks still in place. The child’s drawings on the wall give a feel of cave paintings I think!

At the start of the beach is the remains of “Old St Helens Church” (there is a new one!). Pretty much all of the church fell into ruin except the 13th century tower, it was made safe, the seaward side painted white to aid sea navigation, sort of a lighthouse without a light!

Just further along are some new beach huts, one of them caught my eye…

As for most of my photo’s of this trip to the Island: these were all taken with the Canon EOS30 and the 40mm STM, on bulk loaded Ilford Delta 100, developed with FX21.
