This post features Hovertravel 12000TD’s – built by Griffon Hoverwork Ltd (now Griffon Marine) just across the water in Southampton and Portsmouth. The ride between Southsea and Ryde is the worlds longest running passenger service, and as far as I know, the last one left in Britain. I’ve both photographed and filmed them before, this time on black and white film. As you may have guessed, there could well be a future post of “Hovercrafts in Colour”!! Both the “Solent Flyer” and the “Island Flyer” make up the current fleet. Each holds about 78 passengers and the journey time is around 10 minutes.
