Pentax IQZoom 140m

The Pentax IQZoom (US) or Pentax 140M (UK) seems to be a gem of a camera. I like the idea of having something small I can take out if needed, and over the years have tried many. Most seem to give only average results – this camera seems to me, a mark above the rest!Continue reading “Pentax IQZoom 140m”

My Radioactive Spotmatic!

I have re-acquainted myself with the Pentax Spotmatic! I never actually owned one before, but I used one often in the 80’s, and when I spotted an un-loved one on eBay for just £6:99 plus a little for postage, I couldn’t resist. This is the Spotmatic F, or as it’s noted on the top plateContinue reading “My Radioactive Spotmatic!”

Kodak Retinette

I have two reference books that I look up old cameras in. One tells me that the first Retinette of 1952 was a folding camera (Focal Press “cameras of 1963”), the other “McKeown’s Cameras 1997/1998” states: Retinette cameras: A series of low priced 35mm cameras made in Germany by Kodak A.G. from 1939 to 1967.Continue reading “Kodak Retinette”

Ricoh KR-5

The Ricoh K5 was introduced in 1978 and was the cheapest in the, then, line up of cameras. It’s nothing special nor is it anything terrible! People who often cast their eye over cameras will see plenty that is common. There were similar cameras available from most manufacturers at the time. This one came toContinue reading “Ricoh KR-5”

Canon EOS 30 and Ilford Delta 400

I guess when it comes to a choice in cameras my preference might be described as being for “modern classics”. The Canon EOS 30 fits this description well. I’ll do a post on the camera sometime soon, but for now lets just say it’s one that I grab most often when I’m out for aContinue reading “Canon EOS 30 and Ilford Delta 400”

Зени́т  (Zenith 11)

The picture above is me filming years ago in Norway. What’s that got to do with the Zenith 11? I hear you ask! Well the camera was a 16mm Krasnogorsk, never thought about the name, why would I? I doubt there is a town in Japan called Canon or Yashica, perhaps there is! Well…. TheContinue reading “Зени́т  (Zenith 11)”

Fuji GSW 690 III

A while back I traded my Bronica SQA kit for this behemoth of a camera. Although it is large, it is in fact much lighter than the SQA kit. I found that the SQA was getting left behind more and more due to its weight and sat in a rucksack in the corner. Often referredContinue reading “Fuji GSW 690 III”

Rolleiflex 28a

After watching the John Maloof film about Vivian Maier and her amazing photography, I was over enthusiastic and brought myself a Rolleiflex 28a from the wonderful guys at West Yorkshire Cameras. It’s a lovely camera, and mine had a nice clean Zeiss Opton 80mm f2.8 lens. There is a quirk with these cameras that IContinue reading “Rolleiflex 28a”

Olympus OM10

My thoughts on the Olympus OM10 – This camera must be one of the most popular SLR’s from the early 80’s. I believe it was released in 1979 and I think it was my 2nd SLR after the Zenith 11. It came to me in a strange way. I was working in a film processingContinue reading “Olympus OM10”

Yashica 635

I picked up my example of this TLR (Twin Lens Reflex) in a way that I often pick up cameras. I don’t intend to have many cameras, in fact I conspire to own one and use one film stock – if it was nearly good enough for Henri Cartier Bresson, then it should be nearlyContinue reading “Yashica 635”
