You may remember back in late spring, early summer I started a little A-Z of Dorset project. Then the very hot summer hit, we had some illness in the family and so it went onto the back burner. I did use a couple more rolls of film, that made up a second batch of colour sent out to the lab, and I’ve only gotten around to scanning this roll now! So – S is for Shaftesbury. I’ll follow my past format and just link to Wiki – should you wish to read more about the town. If you zoom in on Golds Hill (above) on Google Earth you’ll see it says “Gold Hill – Historic and Oft Photographed” perhaps most famously for a Hovis Bread Advert by Ridley Scott.

A stones throw away from the top of Gold Hill is the Abbey Museum and Garden. Here there once stood an abbey, founded by Alfred the Great in 888AD. It’s dubious claim to fame is that it was the last abbey to be destroyed by Henry VIII in 1539. Only it’s foundations remain, but enough to imagine the church that was once here – now plants grow where once tall columns of stone stood.

Just over the wall is the current church of Holy Trinity, and in hidden in the town centre is the arts centre. In another life, about 35 years ago I won a film competition in there, with a film made on Super 8!

Chatter: The Hasselblad 501 CM was loaded with Ektar 100, lab developed, home scanned.
