Single Photo: Traction Engine Wheel

I made this image last weekend. It’s no award winning photo, but I am rather pleased with it. Apart from anything else it could be a demonstration: To anyone who say’s film (analogue photography) is too expensive, or even worse, a bit elitist, it was made with a Nikkormat FT2, made in the 70’s as a budget Nikon, now sold on Ebay for about £60. The lens was a Nikon F 28mm (f2.8), about the same cost again.

The film was bulk loaded FP4, old movie film that went out of date in 1998. I purchased a 400ft roll, so when spooled down, I think I once calculated 78p a roll. I developed it in home made D23 replenished film developer, at a cost of certainly less than £1. No need to buy a Leica or something with a T* lens, no need for Tmax at £15 a roll (price at Analogue Wonderland 9/7/25) and no need for HC110 developer at £40 a bottle (Bristol Cameras also 9/7/24) – you get the idea! Over and out!
