Harman are at it again! Another film, they are calling their “first true creative film”. As you can see it’s Redscale. My understanding is that this is simply shooting through the “back” (non-emulsion) side of the film, thus hitting the red layer first, and almost blocking the blue and green layers. Like Phoenix, this is to have a clear base, so maybe will have a “truer” red. Cynics like me might wonder if it’s just Phoenix loaded into a cassette the wrong way around?
Apparently it’s going to be standard C41 process, come in 36 exposure 35mm. Will be DX coded and is rated at 125 ISO. I wish them success with it!
Should be available to order from your favourite supplier of film as of 1 minute ago! 🙂
Happy Valentines Day!!
I’m with you on the cynical part, especially since the leader on the canister I’ve seen is the same yellow that Phoenix is. I may try a roll, but I’m not that into “weird” looking films. (As it is, I’m hot and cold on Phoenix.) I hope that next year we’ll see a new color emulsion that is better than Phoenix.

Hi Shawn, I’m with you, I’m happy to support Harman with my minimal spend, but it’s in the hope that they will produce a decent alternative E6 to compete with Ektachrome or a viable alternative to Gold, or a replacement for Agfa Vista etc etc. I’m not keen on red photo’s or even the punchy contrast of Phoenix. Time will tell! – Cheers Andy

Yeah, another good E6 that could compete with Ektachrome, especially in price, would be great. But that’s probably a decade away at best. I mean, Ferrania reopened ten years or so with the promise of slide film, and we’ve gotten just a handful of black and white emulsions. I mean, Ilford/Harman has a leg up in production facilities, technology, and knowledge, so I’d expect to see E6 sooner from them than Ferrania. Or maybe we’ll get Chinese E6. (Wonder whatever happened with Japan Camera Hunter’s proposed slide film they announced a few years ago?)
But it’s a conundrum: I want Ilford/Harman to succeed with color stock, and the way to do that is buy more color film from them. But I’m only inspired to get Phoenix every six months or so when I want something with an “interesting” look. Do I buy more knowing I don’t even like it, because if I don’t, they’re not going to eventually have something I like?

Hi Shawn, I’m on the same page as you for sure and it’s a conundrum. I suppose to be hard nosed about it, they are in business to make money, in other words milk the analogue market rather than support it, although of course to a degree, one relies on the other! I don’t shoot much colour film anyway, and when I do I’m happy with Gold or Portra – lets hope Kodak keep making it! If Harman go “Gold” then I’d be happy to use that too! Redscale – no thanks!
