Onto Dawlish Warren

Having walked the entire length of the seafront in Dawlish on a glorious sunny October day, I continued on, passing behind Langstone Rock. The Langstone rock field (above) is just the other side of the rock. A haven for sea life that likes tidal rock pools. It is here that the sea wall and the railway line start to part company, if only for a short time.

Dawlish Warren is separate from Dawlish town, it’s a natural split that juts out into the River Exe Estuary, and has a long history. Possibly a neolithic roundhouse, most noted now for holiday camps and a nature reserve. There is a lovely south facing sandy beach too.

I continued along the sea wall out onto the sand spit, and the nature reserve. I had a coffee and a toasted cheese and ham sandwich, reloaded the Canon EOS 30 and set off again. This time in colour with a roll of “New Fuji C200”, otherwise known as Kodak Colorplus 200?

    1. Hello! I suppose living in the south it’s easy for me! I do like the south-west though. I certainly had a lovely day wandering about the “warren”! I do think that with the south-west in general, it can be a nightmare in the height of the summer, I enjoy early summer April/May or late, September/October the most, I don’t have to wait too long for crazy golf 🙂 – Cheers Andy

      1. I agree. While there’s a certain charm to photographing seaside resorts full of holidaymakers, the crowds and (especially) the traffic can be a downside. I too tend to favour spring and autumn, although I also like to go in the height of winter sometimes, to capture them in the off-season. Having said that, a few years ago I took a trip to Cleethorpes in February only for it to be the warmest February day on record. There were people eating ice-creams, sitting on deckchairs on the beach, and even paddling in the sea! 😀

      2. Mad weather!! I had a similar day a week ago – November, walking about without a coat, sat outside and had a coffee in the sun, it was more like May than November! I’ve always said that if I ever got a beach hut I’d probably spend more time in it over the winter, than the summer!! – I lived in Weymouth for years and certainly I enjoyed the “off season” more than the height of summer! Thinking about it – one would make a good darkroom 🙂 – Cheers Andy
