A “single photo” type post. I’ve walked past this house before in the early morning and noticed they still have milk delivered in the traditional way from my youth! Yes, a milkman delivering milk in milk bottles! It still exists – this image was made last week!
This particular morning I happened to have my little digital camera to hand.
Imagine how many plastic bottles less there would be in the world if we all still had milk delivered in this way, and the bottles washed and re-used. However did we ever think that throwing plastic bottle after plastic bottle in the rubbish/recycling was ever a good idea?
When I first got the internet, things were slow, I mean really slow. I remember making a four minute video once, it took 10 hours overnight to render! I did more than one all nighter sat at the computer, and remember hearing the milkman with tinkling bottles coming up the road at dawn in the electric float – yes, electric, imagine that! Way before it’s time! Perhaps it’s time to re-invent the wheel?
Next time: Butter in paper and fish and chips in newspaper! 🙂
I still get my milk delivered in glass bottles, only twice a week now, and sadly not by an electric milk float.

Wonderful! I’m not sure who I’d even ask these days, are Unigate even still a thing? I remember the column of frozen cream poking out the top of the bottle during the winter, and the box of broken biscuits!! I do still own my mothers “Dairy Cook Book” – and very good it is too! Happy days. Cheers Andy
