To Cockwood Harbour

I’ve been on a short break! I took the Motorhome on it’s maiden voyage, about 100 miles, down into Devon, to the small village of Cofton. I’m sure you won’t have heard of Cofton, but you may have heard of it’s neighbour – Dawlish. I got to the campsite at about 4pm, figured out the electrical hook up, filled up with fresh water, cooked dinner, and got the TV up and going – in each case for the first time. Then the rain set in, and did it rain! It poured, to the point where I gave up trying to hear the TV, and so decided coffee would be a better project! Got a good nights sleep and the next morning, awoke to sun, rabbits and magpies! I missed the rabbits but here is the view above.

I took my two Canon EOS30 bodies with me and three lenses. I took the second body as I took a couple rolls of colour film and imagined I’d run colour in one and B/W in the other – in the event, only one body left the motorhome and I used my good old faithful 40mm pancake lens for every shot. I could have taken a much smaller bag! I’ll admit that I had intended to walk into Dawlish Warren but at the critical junction took a left instead of a right and ended up, walking up the estuary away from the warren – this map reading malfunction turned out ok in the end! Dawlish Warren Road, above, runs parallel to the raised railway track, which in turn runs parallel to the estuary. I waited in the middle of the road for a train to come along – much to the bewilderment of the car driver!

Fast trains also whiz through and above is one of them! At this point there is a flight of steps and a rail crossing, so the estuary of the River Exe can be viewed. I had a look!

… and this is the step arrangement!

A short distance further on I made it to Cockwood, and it’s pretty little harbour. The tide was out, but I still managed another train shot!

This first roll was Ilford HP5 and I developed it in D23, I think this is a good combination. Rather, it’s a combination that I like! In total the walk was a little over 3 miles, so not at all long. However over the next few days, the old leg muscles got a work out!
