Scotland

Almost exactly 15 years ago I went to Scotland with a good friend. We went to a Buddhist retreat on the shores of Loch Voil. Above is the view from Creag An Tuirc. It was interesting experience, one that mostly I enjoyed very much. On the journey up we stopped at Kendal in the Lake District. For dinner that night I had lamb. It was the best lamb I’ve ever had. I can remember it still! Interestingly, the retreat was of course vegetarian, and I remained so for about 5 years or so after.

The bits that I wasn’t too keen on were the “group sessions” and the practicalities of cooking for 20 people, apart from that – it was a good experience. I was brought up as a Christian, specifically in the CofE (Church of England). For many years my family thought that I may well become a priest – people who know me now will laugh at this, but it’s true. I guess around the age of 15 or 16 life took another direction, so that never happened. I did however read more about Buddhism and if I were going to “be” anything these days I think I would lean towards Buddhism.

Meanwhile outside the location was very beautiful, and as I had taken my Canon 5D Mk2 I made a couple of reasonable images.

    1. Hi Shawn! Same here! I’ve made this visit and I’ve been to Edinburgh for a film festival, apart from that, a walk along Hadrian’s Wall which I guess was technically in and out, so not exactly in depth! I feel that I should spend more time there!! – Cheers Andy
