Drake Circus

Drake Circus is the main shopping mall in the centre of Plymouth. It opened in 2006, and houses around 70 shops. It’s a handy place to park in the centre of Plymouth, and close to the HMV store, which once was in the centre, but now is just outside! As shopping malls go, it’s nothing special or remarkable, not unlike the the one I visited in Southampton a couple months back. That said it was bright and airy, I had a nice coffee there. There were some interesting “weather” installations, and I made a handful of images with my little Olympus XA2.

  1. You are getting some great shots with that little XA2. I commented recently that I went to the Outer Hebrides and hoped to take my Minox – but found it unserviceable when I took it out of the loft 😦

I took a Nettax instead – films still not developed! I actually forgot that I have an XA2 😮 I should have taken that, it is almost as compact as the Minox – and a lot more reliable! It takes great pictures, too, as you are demonstrating very well.

I always wanted the XA model – the one with rangefinder focus. It is a bit more versatile than the zone focused XA2, but whilst XA2s and XA3s are quite cheap, the XA unfortunately seems to have acquired ‘collector status’ and a price tag to match…

    1. Hello! Yes I wanted to take something small, for wandering the streets of Exeter and Plymouth, rather than lugging about the 6×6 kit! It seemed to work out well. I never have the flash bolted on the side, so it’s pretty tiny! I’m trying to take out all my cameras this summer and run at least one roll through, I think I may have a clear out soon! – We’ll see! Cheers Andy
