35mm: People at the Victorian Fair

Part of my job involves working with people, so you’d think that out and about I’d find it easy to photograph people. The truth is I don’t. I have to push myself to go closer, and push myself even more to ask for a photo and chat. I can’t think of any reason why this should be, other than by talking to people daily I quite enjoy a bit of peace and quiet and time to myself when I’m out and about making photo’s. At work people come to me of course, which is therefore slightly different. As far as “street photography” goes, I think those images need to be very good, and I see a lot that don’t actually mean very much – especially mine, but I keep on, keeping on…

Another problem is that I work in a very small town, and live in an even smaller one, sometimes there are only a handful of people in the entire street, so it’s rather difficult to try the HCB approach and “be invisible”. When there is an event on of this type however it’s busier and easier to blend in. Plus something is actually happening and there are more characters, I become a bit braver!

    1. Hello! Many thanks – I got down low for most of the Morris photo’s – that was easy, getting back up was harder 🙂 – The penny farthing shot was literally swing on my heels and press. Luckily I was on f8 and give or take 3 meters – “f8 and be there!” in action! – Cheers Andy
