35mm: People at the Victorian Fair

Part of my job involves working with people, so you’d think that out and about I’d find it easy to photograph people. The truth is I don’t. I have to push myself to go closer, and push myself even more to ask for a photo and chat. I can’t think of any reason why thisContinue reading “35mm: People at the Victorian Fair”

35mm: Car boot sale

Every Saturday morning the old market town of Wimborne has a car boot sale. While they seem to have lost a little of their appeal of the 90’s, they remain popular for sure. This one by local standards is quite big, and as I drive past it on my way to work every Saturday, alwaysContinue reading “35mm: Car boot sale”

Steam at a Victorian Fair

Perhaps Dorchester’s most famous son is the author and poet Thomas Hardy. He was born 2nd June 1840, in Stinsford, a small parish east of the town. A more recent event in the town’s calendar is the “Thomas Hardy Victorian Fair”, which has been held on the Sunday closest to June 2nd, (this year –Continue reading “Steam at a Victorian Fair”

Decay Around Poole

A post of few words for a change! I often have a wander around the nearby town of Poole. I had a few exposures left on a roll to use up, and the theme of decay appeared in front of me. I didn’t intend that necessarily, it just did!

Kentmere 100 @West Bay

After my visit to the village of Symondsbury in the last post, I drove the couple of miles down to the coast. The small seaside town of West Bay, these days most famous for being “Broadchurch” in the BBC series of the same name, but it has a very long history. Originally it was calledContinue reading “Kentmere 100 @West Bay”

Film: Kentmere 100

There is talk that Ilford (Harman Technology) manufacture film for others. Possibly the “new” Fuji Across, I have no knowledge of this, but I do believe it is common knowledge that it is packaged by them here in the UK. Then there is the “new” Agfa APX, I’ve used a few rolls of this, andContinue reading “Film: Kentmere 100”

Travel: Egypt Valley of the Queens

Today I’m covering another day of my trip to Egypt. This time, I cross the Nile from Luxor to visit the Valley of the Queens. For those of you who’ve read the first two posts, you’ll know I took with me a digital video camera, a Canon Zoom 60 and as my main camera aContinue reading “Travel: Egypt Valley of the Queens”

35mm: a few more from SFX

I’m on holiday this week. I have the week off from work and am having a “stay-cation”. I’ve already squeezed in a couple of good day trips and have a few others planned, it’s giving me the opportunity to actually go out and make some photo’s! I feel another processing session coming on towards theContinue reading “35mm: a few more from SFX”

110: and the miracle of colour film

Following my recent complete failure of using up a 1980’s 126 film, I thought I’d try a 110! This time from the depths of my film cupboard I found a Truprint XG 200 film. It was so old that the small white panel on the box that should show the expiry date was so fadedContinue reading “110: and the miracle of colour film”

Film: Ilford SFX

Ilford SFX is the only Ilford film, I’ve not used before. I purchased a roll to give it a try. Why? I’ve never done any Infrared photography before, and while this isn’t a true infrared film, it does have sensitivity extended into that area. The graph from Ilford (Harman) above, shows where conventional film stopsContinue reading “Film: Ilford SFX”
