Charlecote Park

The estate of Charlecote Park in Warwickshire has been in the Lucy family since 1247. The house was built in the 1550’s and has been added to since – most notably a “service wing” in 1829. All of that maybe remarkable enough, but perhaps even more so, is the fact that the Lucy family still live here! It’s been their family home for over 900 years!

From the car park, the house is approached along a main tree lined drive, though a Gatehouse, into the Green Court – then finally the front of the house.

Turning around 180 degrees the “back” of the Gatehouse is also worth an image!

The house was closed during my visit – quite normal for the National Trust to “put the house to bed” for the winter, and it hadn’t woken up for visitors yet. Still, around this corner of the house (above) it’s possible to access the Parterre garden on a terrance overlooking the River Avon (below).

At this time of the year people visit for a bit of fresh air and a walk around the parkland itself. At over 180 acres there’s plenty of space!

Chatter: All of the images in this post were made with my Canon EOS 30 and the 40mm STM lens, it’s a favourite combination of mine! The film was Kentmere 200 that I’ve been using on and off, not exactly testing it, more finding my feet with it. I developed this roll in D23, and it’s a combination that, for my tastes, I like.
