A Cold Walk

The last day of 2025 was cold and icy, but with a clear sky, so I decided I would move myself, and get out for a walk. I went to the Avon Valley Country Park. It’s nearby, and easy. It’s quite a wet, heathland area, and as I pulled into the car park, I entered a land of slightly mystical, hoar frost, mist and ice. I had taken with me my Olympus OM2n, the 35mm Zukio lens, and had loaded the camera with a roll of Ilford Delta 100. I also took along the 50mm lens but never used it. All told I walked for about and hour and a half. It was cold for sure, but I’d wrapped up warm so that was no problem, but every breath was a bit sharp on the chest!

Exposure was a little tricky. What I decided to in the end was to expose for the foreground, but under-develop a little. I knew the sky which was misty would be pretty featureless, but I didn’t want that filled with grain. A thinner negative shows less grain. In the end I perhaps over did that. Overall it worked out!

New Years Day I developed the film in the last of my current batch of FX55. I did 10 minutes at 20°c, with Ilford agitation.

    1. Hi Nige! I like photographing in that sort of weather, I just need motivating to actually get out in it! It seems to get easier and easier to sit on the sofa and have a coffee instead!! This year however – I’m giving myself a kick up the …. to get on with it! (He said sat on the sofa watching the snooker!!) lol
