On a beautiful sunny day I took my Olympus OM2n with the Zukio f1.8 50mm for a walk along Bournemouth sea front. At this time of year it’s possible to walk out to the end of the pier for free. Locals often wait until the early autumn for every thing to quiet down a bit after the summer madness!

At the very end of the pier is a Helter Skelter (above) and a second tower which is one end of a zip wire that goes out over the sea and back to the beach give or take about 900ft long.

Looking back from the pier towards land, gives a good view of the first bit of West Cliff. The pier itself divides the two seafront areas of the town into east and west cliff. In the image below you can see the Oceanarium and the Amusements, and above them the BIC (Bournemouth International Centre). This is a multipurpose conference centre/theatre/exhibition space. I’ve seen a few shows there over the years. The clouds were perfect for a landscape!!

Along either side of the pier are landing stages. Boats can dock here, but it’s not common these days. The worlds last sea going paddle steamer called the “Waverly” is known to dock here. I did a trip from Weymouth, along the Dorset coast once. It docked at Bournemouth, and a waiting coach brought us back to Weymouth. It was a lovely trip. That said, it all looks in pretty bad shape these days!

Next time I’ll share a few images of beach huts. Do try your best to contain your excitement!! 🙂
