On the “Wings” side of things – all the planes were small and light, it’s that type of show. The sort of planes that you or I may own and fly if we could. During the course of the day many flew in and out – most taxied to the display field, at 1pm it closed to any more planes so the field could be opened to the public.

Unlike the cars where I used the 40mm lens, here I used the 70-300mm Canon EF. Not a posh one, in fact the cheapest one of their line up at the time. It’s still a perfectly good lens. I always obey “the golden rule” of longer lenses – “don’t drop the shutter speed below the effective focal length”, it’s good practice for sharpness!

All of these images were made on Ilford Delta 100 and developed in FX55.

Those small planes embody the romance and adventure of flight. There is a similar air show in Albuquerque every year which I have attended many times.

Hi Mike! I have few more decent plane images to post, but I quite agree, slower, quieter, romance of flight is spot on! Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the ground shaking with a Vulcan bomber flying over head, but the “putter” of a prop and seeing the pilot wave is much nicer. Cheers and best wishes – Andy
