This weekend just gone I went to this years “Wings and Wheels” show. I remember going to an early one, maybe the 2nd or 3rd, and I’m amazed to find out that this year, 2025, is the 25th! It takes place at Henstridge Airfield, which in itself is interesting. Although it seems like it’s at the back end of an industrial estate, which it is – in it’s heyday it had 5 runways. It was built between 1941/43 and in use from 1943-58 as a Royal Naval Air Station (rather than RAF), and was named HMS Dipper. Perhaps of interest is the last remaining runway “… incorporated a dummy deck landing strip, complete with under-ground arresting gear with four above ground arrestor wires, which was a duplicate of that installed on HMS Implacable for training of aircraft carrier landings” to quote Wiki. Anyway – since my last visit the event has grown some.

I decided I wanted to take a long lens with me, and as I’ve written recently about my trip to Brownsea Island, that means the Canon EOS 30 and the 300mm EF lens. Both worked well and I used a couple of rolls of Ilford Delta 100, (bulk loaded). I developed them in FX55 and got results that I liked. There will be more to come, but I’ll try and spread out the results rather than a great dollop!

Noting that its WINGS and wheels – you’ll notice that I have cut off the wings!

That must a been a great day out!
