
While I was wandering around Swanage I made the photo above. I would make a guess that what is now “Playland Amusements” was once a fish market, judging by the fact the rail tracks run right through the front door! In the background is “The Parade”. It was here that British artist Paul Nash lived for considerable time, and had one of his most productive periods. The property in question now bears a blue plaque.

He is of course known for his paintings, what is less known is that he wife gave him a camera which he came to enjoy using referring to it as “a new eye”. It turns out that he was quite a reasonable photographer. There have even been a couple of exhibitions of his photographic work over the years. There are a couple of short articles here and here.
