Swanage Seafront

After arriving in Swanage by steam train, it was just a short walk down the main street to reach the seafront. It was a hot day, so first I had an ice cream – double chocolate, very nice! A little further along is this group of rather smart beach huts, you may recognise them from the colour version on my homepage, (about time I changed that!).

The bay is protected by Ballard Point, on top is Ballard Down, and it’s faced by Ballard Cliff! Named after William Ballard who once owned the land in the 1800’s. You can see it in the background of the image above. There is a great view and a trig point up there. I’ve walked it before but it was just too hot on this occasion! It’s in the background of most of the photo’s.

Upon reaching the end of the “prom” I just turned around and headed back to the town. Nearly back at the starting point I photographed this column with canon balls on the top. It was erected in 1862 by John Mowlem, another famous “son of the town”, but that’s another story!

All of the images in this post were taken with my Nikkormat FT2 with the 28mm F lens. A combination that I’m really starting to enjoy! The Ilford FP4 (old movie film) was developed in D23. It was a hot day and even the cold tap water was 24 degrees, so I developed for 8 mins at 22 degrees. Negs were fine!
