… to Swanage

I’ve just had a long weekend off work. Friday I decided to get myself off to the seaside town of Swanage and there is only one way to arrive in style! Give or take about 6 miles inland is a park and ride for the “Swanage Steam Railway” a preserved railway. I hopped on the train (34070) “Manston”. A battle of britain class that dates from 1947, and ran with British rail until 1964. The route passes first through Corfe Castle, which perhaps I should explain is actually a village, and a castle! Both can be viewed from the train. As I trundled along I toyed with the idea of photographing the engine with my 5×7 – they are both from November 1947! I was however using my Nikkormat FT2 with 28mm.

The next stop is “Harmans Cross” and then it’s on to Swanage the end of the line. The whole journey is about 25 minutes, and very relaxing too!

Next an ice cream and a walk along the prom!
