
You all know the building above, you may not recognise it, but you do! This was once a quarry, much of the stone used to build nearby Salzburg Cathedral. When finished the area was turned into a riding school – “Felsenreitschule” means rock riding school. So the nobility could watch in comfort, 96 arcades on 3 levels were carved out of the hill side. You know them too. From 1926 it was used for open air theatre and eventually music. Today it’s been enclosed but with a sliding roof arrangement which can be opened in 6 minutes.
