A Walk Continued

Last week I shared a couple of posts where I went out with my Pentax Spotmatic and 50mm standard lens for a short photowalk. I had been given an out-of-date twin pack, containing two rolls of Fuji 200. I only got to about the halfway point of the proposed walk and ran out of both time and film. I enjoyed myself, so decided that another day, I’d complete the walk and use up the second roll. These are pictures from that, part 2!

Dorchester is an old Roman town, in fact it dates way back before them, and once had a henge, as in Stonehenge, just smaller! Anyway, the Romans built a defensive wall around what was then the outer edge of the town. Where these walls once stood are now “the walks” but of course, these are now far from the edge of the town, more like an inner circle. It makes for a perfect lunchtime walk!

I always enjoy using the Spotmatic – it’s simple and straightforward, the Takumar lenses give great results, and compared to some, it’s light and small. I’m starting to find that it is a “glasses on” camera, I can no longer see the focus clearly. I can tell when it’s at it’s sharpest, by going past and then back to focus, but I can’t see it sharp, if that makes any sense! I get by.

Above are some statues, marking the spot where the town gallows once stood, they are by Elisabeth Frink, they were unveiled in 1986. Below, this rather attractive town house (now old peoples home) overlooks them. Below that a less attractive “lump”, once roman archaeology, then a car park, then this building was built to house and join two councils to make savings. Abandoned by them and is now a day patients NHS centre.

Finally the War Memorial, stands at the end of the main high street, and a good place to end this post – there will be a part two of part two!!
