Darkroom on Wheels!

Well I’ve finally gone and done it! Something I’ve been talking about for over a decade. People who know me will testify that I’ve been boring them with the idea for years, if you look at the title page of this blog – since the beginning, campervans has been in the title – now it’s a reality. Let me take you on a little tour –

As you step inside, (what I have discovered is known as the habitation door!) to your right would be the kitchen. Perfect space for developing film, ohh look there’s a tank there already! The area to the left of the cooker, the other side of the wall is a bathroom, or as I like to call it the “drying cabinet”. The little retractable line may be designed for clothes but it’s perfect for a 36 exp!!

While the film is drying, I may need a coffee, so there is somewhere to sit, it’s also the bed area. There is an “upstairs” which is a double, I’ve tried it and it’s comfortable enough once in place with eyes closed. Getting up the ladder and into place is bit of a pantomime, and with eyes open it’s like being in a nice padded coffin. Taking a pee in the middle of the night, something I often do, would also require planning, so the decision is made – sleeping downstairs! The space can be used for storing the duvet!

The seats at the front swivel to give a bit more seating/room and sat in the drivers seat – this is the view down the length.

I purchased it second hand, with very few miles on the clock, and a decent guarantee, so hopefully I have many happy hours and miles ahead. It did come with a resident- “Mike the Motorhome Monkey”

Truth is I’ve always liked camping and being out in the fresh air, touring, seeing stuff, and watching the sun set, but at 55 I’m already finding that my body is not a flexible as it once was. My back gives me trouble every now and again, so the day’s of me carrying a tent in a ruck sack, as much as I hate to admit it, are passed. Joking apart I often do need a pee in the night, and walking to the toilet block at 3am in the rain doesn’t appeal much either! I hope the motorhome will provide the answer! Watch this space!

    1. Hello! There is much more involved than I imagined – it’s almost a hobby by itself! That said, and joking apart, I hope that it will get me out and about more, even on wet rainy days, if for nothing else than a change of scene! I’ve got to the point where I think that it will be good for both my mental and physical health. I should now be able to park up, boot up the laptop and the DAB radio and write, even if I’m not making photo’s, make a coffee and have a wee all without leaving the vehicle! As for travels, well first experiment is to spend the night on the drive! 🙂 Cheers Andy
