Out Back

If I depart from the kitchen door, proceed up the garden path, exit the property through the back gate, I end up standing on a playing field. Three or four games of football run simultaneously on a Sunday morning. Sometimes they are there when I wake up and look out the bedroom window! Behind that, the well kept football pitches soon end, and through another gate I am on open heathland. After all the rain and grey we’ve had recently, this last Sunday was a lovely sunny day, cold but lovely. It seemed too nice and rare not to have a walk for an hour. I still had half a roll of Tri-X in the camera, so off we set.

All of the above were made on Tri-X with the Leica. I only took the Zeiss 35mm lens, and slung the ensemble over my shoulder – no bag of stuff, not even a meter – I guessed. An approach that I may start to adopt more often! When I got back home, I had a coffee to warm up, and developed the film in the kitchen. Ilfosol 3 gave me less grain than the Rodinal/400 combination I’ve tried recently – no surprises there.
