Early on when I started to make super 8 films, edited and with a soundtrack for public consumption, I was offered much advice. Two nuggets that did stick with me were “Why make a film when a written paragraph will do the same job?” and “Don’t quote too many facts and figures, people won’t listen after the third date and will instantly forget those anyway – just give a flavour”. So I could tell you a lot more than Tower Bridge was built between 1886 and 1894, is a grade 1 listed building, stretching about 800 feet across the Thames, and involved the help of Henry Marc Brunel, son of IKB (Isambard Kingdom Brunel) – but I won’t!

I could also go into detail about the Canon EOS30 with the 40mm STM lens combo that I enjoy using very much, or the good characteristics of Ilford’s Delta 400 film that is perfect for black and white travel photography. Or indeed the perils of developing it in Rodinal, but as I’ve already mentioned that in several previous posts I’ll refrain from that too!

I could also mention the urban myth that Robert Paxton McCulloch an American entrepreneur from Missouri, thought he was buying the bridge when in fact he was purchasing the old London Bridge, but as there is no truth in that, it doesn’t seem worth making too much out of that either.

Perhaps the best thing is to just share a few images!
