Spitalfields in London takes its name from a hospital and priory, St. Mary’s Spittel which was founded in 1197. The area was once pretty rural and of course there were fields next door! The market for which the area is famous, has now moved out to Leyton, and after a regeneration programme, the large building was re-opened as an artist/foodie destination. The photo above gives an idea. Behind is a small, but very nice square to sit and have a coffee!

Just across the road stands Christ Church, a place for worship since the 18th century, on the opposite corner a pub!

Just across the way is Brick Lane, celebrated for a large community from Bangladesh and home to a Mosque whose building dates from 1700’s but with a modern minaret.

…. and just around the corner Analogue Films!
