A few days back I found myself working in Ringwood for the day – un-usual enough. Then there was a loud – steam like whistle! Interesting I thought! Outside there was a track running down the street. Before long, there was a genuine steam engine running up and down on it.

“Merlin” bore the “Carnival Special” plaque on it’s chimney, that rather gave the explanation of it being in the middle of the road. It turned out that, completely un-knowing I had arrived on Carnival Day! I grabbed and old digital camera, a Panasonic FZ62, by modern standards an ageing bridge camera, and made a few pics. Although it’s older and not particularly high on pixels, it comes from an age when the lens was certainly good.

In the afternoon the parade went practically past the door, and to my surprise it was pretty good, and had a few other working steam participants.

The procession took a good hour to go by, and I’ll post a few other pics in another post. The Red Arrows made a flypast too, but I missed them!
