My trip to the “Thomas Hardy Victorian Fair” in Dorchester was both rewarding and frustrating. Rewarding in the sense that I came away with some reasonable photo’s, frustrating in that they could have been much better. The obvious problem of course is trying to get a natural expression on a subject, in period costume, without a modern background creeping in. I almost managed it a couple of times!
The title of the post comes from the fact, that there were almost some “scenes set up” and I wonder if they were actors, professional or amateur, or regular people co-ordinated by the organisers to make the event have a bit more of a “theme”. Perhaps they were just “rent a Victorian for the day”! I could get paid for taking a half plate camera next year!!

I have a handful of images of craftspeople to share in another post!
