Steam at a Victorian Fair

Perhaps Dorchester’s most famous son is the author and poet Thomas Hardy. He was born 2nd June 1840, in Stinsford, a small parish east of the town. A more recent event in the town’s calendar is the “Thomas Hardy Victorian Fair”, which has been held on the Sunday closest to June 2nd, (this year – the 4th!) to celebrate his birth.

Both of the towns main streets are closed to traffic, creating a T shaped area to wander, with a few even dressing in Victorian clothes. This year a couple of steam engines turned up, so I made a few images. Here are a couple of the better ones!
