Cars in Peril

Never a dull moment! I drove back from my holiday in Devon on a Friday. Two days later I was sat in the lounge and saw some smoke and assumed a winter fire to burn some leaves. Then it got bigger, then bigger again. To cut a long story short a Vauxhall Zafira across the road from me had burst into flames. Alarmingly, apparently this is not unusual!! A quick internet search reveals at least three recalls due to fire issues. Once I’d established the fire brigade had been called I grabbed the camera. One way to finish off a film! It’s amazing how much smoke a burning car generates. It also made many medium sized explosions. I guess tires, fuel tank and so on. In half an hour it was all over, at least for the passer by. I assume the owner will now have to battle with insurance, and house insurance etc! Most importantly of all, I gather no one was injured.

By strange coincidence a couple days later, I was walking to work as I usually do, and came across this sight! The high wall that you can see has collapsed, rounds an entire corner and encloses a higher, churchyard. This section is set back into the parking area that you can see, but I often park where it comes out to meet the pavement. I’ve often thought when parking against it “I hope this doesn’t decide to collapse”! The thing is we never expect these things to actually happen. To the owner of this car it did! There is actually another car park space to the left of this car, so there could be another car that is completely covered in there! Needless to say I have stopped parking alongside this wall!
