King’s Tor

Following on from the last post of Bennett’s Cross, a couple of miles down the road, is the “Four Winds” car park. That tells you something before you even get out of the car! In fact on my visit the wind was not much more than a breeze but it was damp, murky and wet at times. Never mind – press on. Having crossed a small river without a bridge, the climb up Kings Tor is easy enough, although I wouldn’t call it an easy walk.

On a clear day the view to the north is long, many miles. Due to the murky weather, I concentrated on the rocks and let the weather help the atmosphere. I’ve been using a home brew of D23 developer to develop my films from this trip and I’m liking it very much, It seems to hold the highlights very well. So much so, that I’ve decided I like it better than my regular Ilfosol, and won’t be buying another bottle anytime soon.

I also enjoyed using Ilfords Pan-F plus film. It’s slow, but I soon got used to longer exposures. I like it’s tonal range especially when paired with D23. I can see me buying more of it in the future, although I’m now currently using up some Delta 100 from my stash!

I half expected to see Gandalf the Great appear on his horse, but he never showed.

Chatter: As usual for this trip, I used my Hasselblad 501CM with the 80mm. Ilford Pan-F plus, developed in D23.
