I developed a roll of Ilford Delta 120 this morning. The final part of my process is to add a few drops of wetting agent to the final rinse, let it soak for a couple minutes, then wipe and hang to dry. Today marked a milestone! I finally finished my bottle of Ilford Ilfotol.
I’ve had it for years, decades in fact! I purchased it from Jessops in Poole. How long has it been since Jessops has functioned as a “proper” photography store, never mind selling chemistry for a darkroom! I reckon it’s about 25-30 years old!
I’ve got my new bottle ready to go – interestingly Ilford now only seem to sell Ilfotol in 1 litre bottles. 4 times the amount should last me 4 times as long, so I expect this new bottle to run out sometime near my 155th birthday. It is true that I exposed and developed little film for a number of years, so maybe with the current flow I may have to reduce that time to 100th birthday – we’ll see. I’ll keep you posted!
In other news I’ve just paid WordPress for another year, so if you enjoy reading my ramblings, I’ll be around for another year (at least). I’m still very much enjoying blogging, so see no reason to stop!
Congratulations on a year of blogging. I’ve enjoyed seeing your good work.

Every year we see the money go out, but we keep doing it. I tend to say it is xpints of Guinness that I will not drink in the year, and count it as a hobby, even though I would lie to make a little money on it.

Hi Ian! I guess as some hobbies go, it can be an expensive to indulge in, although equally I guess it doesn’t have to be, and compared to hang gliding it’s cheap! I just purchased another 5 rolls of Ektar 100 120, that’s another 34 chocolate oranges I’ll never eat! 🙂 Cheers Andy

And yet we still keep at it, and I think we both get a huge amount of pleasure from it. Money we’ll spent if you ask me!

Hi Ian, truth is that if I weren’t out making photo’s, I’d be out and about a lot less. Apart from the exercise and the fresh air, my opinion is that it’s good for one’s mental health. As you say, money well spent. (Guinness too!) – Cheers Andy
